A branch cannot bear fruit unless it abides in the vine.   The vine is Christ.  We are attached to Christ, a branch just as others, like tomatoes or grapes, there is no fruit unless we are being nourished by the vine.  Christ gives us this nourishment and we cannot bear testimony and have a spirit filled life, unless we are attached and give our lives to him.
